Every wonder if it’s easier to take an online class than actually attend a live class? Find out which will work best for you. Have you ever had one of those mornings where you wake up after hanging out way too late the night before? The first thought that probably popped into your head was whether or not to skip class…“Is it even worth going today?”…”I’d rather sleep!”…”It’s just a review so who cares.”…”Maybe my professor won’t even notice I’m not there.”…”Man, I should have signed up for the online class instead.” One great thing about online courses is that you can “attend” in your PJs or sweats and not actually get out of bed. Other benefits are some courses are self-paced so as long as you read your materials and do your assignments by deadline, you are all set and can achieve the “A” you’re striving to achieve. If you’re a self-paced learner who loves to read and figure out problems and equations independently, online learning may be the way to go. Lastly, if you’re a commuter and don’t want to travel as often, as far, or in bad weather this may save you money, time, and headaches. Here’s where online classes can literally suck. You may not always have the opportunity to ask your professor questions and get feedback from your classmates as you would in a live classroom. Some online sessions and quizzes/ tests are timed online (via Blackboard or other online systems). If you can’t get online, you may be considered delinquent for class or a quiz or test. If you are a hands on learner or learn by discussing topics as a group, this opportunity is completely limited to email and online posts. Lastly, if you want to build your social network in person and not just on Facebook, attending a live class is your best bet. Whichever you choose, make sure your choice works for you!
